Carvin's Cove Appalachian Trail
Hay Rock Via Appalachian Trail is moderately trekked 7.4 mile hike to Hay Rock. The trail crosses Tinker Creek as it snakes up the mountain, through powerlines to finally overlook Carvin's Cove for the last 2 miles. This section of the trail managed by National Park Service.

Once you pass the powerline and head down the ridge, there will be more than a couple of openings on the way to Hay Rock. This one was taken about 2 miles in overlooking Carvin's Cove.
Hay Rock is a popular out and back hike starting at the corner of I-81 and 220. Once you reach the top of the ridge, you'll know it when you hit the power lines, it's a causal hike about another two miles with some of the best views of Carvin's Cove Natural Reserve around.
