Road Trips From Roanoke - New River Gorge, WV
Overlooks Big Bridge Hiking National Parks
When you open up your Road Trip radius to 4 hours, another world opens up living in Roanoke. This is the third part of the Road Trips From Roanoke Va series and this time we're going to New River Gorge National Park.
New River Gorge also doesn't charge an entrance fee which is lovely.
Editor's Note: We try hard to be accurate in our reporting but please always use multiple references before driving to a trailhead as trail amenities and conditions can always change.
Getting To New River Gorge, WV
New River Gorge National Park is massive on a scale of parks and getting from one end to the other can take 45 minutes. I set out to see Grandview, New River Gorge Bridge, and camp at Glade Creek Campground so I knew there was a drive in between each. There's a toll between Grandview and the bridge to be aware as well as well as a toll on I-77 as well.
Best Picture Locations
Grandview and the New River Gorge Bridge took just a little extra looking into how to get the best picture. You won't go wrong going on the Long Point Trail to see the bridge. With Grandview there are 3 overlooks and I recommend the second overview closest to the main for the best straight-on view.
